The lead developers of the Funkwhale want to effectively forbid so-called far-right music in order to promote their political agendas, as seen in these following links to their GitLab instance:

Someone at Prometheus took notice of a post on their Mastodon account (long lost to history, assuming they deleted it), had brought a representative of YakumoLabs to a Matrix room, around early 2025 to discuss about the possibility of a fork, and the name 'FunQuail' was coined by the owner himself.

However, the branch was never merged, and the fork remained in a frozen state until January 24, 2026, until it was brought up again.

The goals of both organizations have aligned and thus, this project was finally born.

Nobody should force anyone into their political beliefs, always respect the freedom of the fellow being.
